I've heard this called "teeth gritting harmony".
Sums up the happy lives of JWs very well.
well sometimes we are.. look we have the knowledge and experience to help a lot of people.must of us have one time been jw's and understand how many think.so lets not put them off by being too negative.. when we were witnesses most of us were quite happy .
we tried to be good people , to put into practise principles that many people think are good.
we did this sometimes even when we didn't want to , because we thought god would hold us accountable and because we cared for people .

i was on my way to install a cd-rw for a friend of my wife, who's son is a friend of my grandson.
i invited him to come along with me.
on the way he began to question me about religion.
Big consideration for all of us who are parents, grandparents (great grandparents!). I have no idea what I'm going to tell my son when he gets older.
How do I know whether my beliefs have been programmed in to me or if they are really what I believe??? How do I pass this on to my son??? So I guess I feel the same way as you.
So, the way I see it is that we just enjoy our children for now. I hope that one day he'll have some answers for me (just as I have had some for my Mum).
Anyway, your grandson sounds like a real thinker. Children can teach us so much.

why do we keep coming here?.
why when many of us have left do we still feel drawn to discuss watchtower issues?.
in the scope of the hole world the organisation known as jehovahs witnesses means little for most people but for us it's still a majour part of our lives.. we might even spend more time now thinking and discussing it than we did as witnesses.. of course it still effects us we will never forget what has happened to us.. for many the sense of deception and disapointment is great, coupled with the frustration that many of our former friends and family just do not understand us and our choice to leave.. we would like to see and end to this rotten organisation and hope that we can play at least a small part in that.
This site is not the only thing in my life - but the JW cult used to be at the centre of it.
Sometimes I feel angry as I feel they wasted my youth and I come here to help heal my wounds. On good days, like Alamb, I extend my hand to someone else who feels low or who is ready to climb out of the pit.
I did not CHOOSE to be a JW - it was programmed in by my parents. I do, however choose to be here a few times a week.
On a practical level, I am studying Cultural Studies as part of my degree and I'm interested in the way that mass indoctrination can be undone.
So, come on guys, smile. We're on the outside now.
Brainwashing, religious euphoria, good smoke...all the same to me. At least with a good smoke you know you'll regain control again.
Incidentally, being stoned whilst sitting at a meeting is interesting...
awake jan 8 2002:.
"the events of september 11, 2001, in new york city, washington d.c., and pennsylvania will be indelibly impressed on the minds of millions, if not billions, of the world's inhabitants.
where were you when you saw or heard the news of the attack on the world trade center in new york and on the pentagon in washington?.
I think that the whole world was incredible shaken by this event. I cried for days and I personally knew no-one involved.
A freind of mine, still a JW told my mother that not a mention had been made of this at the following meeting. No prayer offered.
And yet, the whole sad event is used to coerce potential converts...again.

"Tragedies like this one in New York City should make all of us reflect on what we are doing with our lives"
Too bloody right. You won't find me wasting another moment of mine in a Kingdom Hall!!
Thanks for taking the effort of sharing this with us Sirona and thanks for your comments - I'm with you.
As I have heard so many times before, who would want to be in the "New Order" if it were filled with JWs?
"You will know my people as they will have love among themselves" Exactly where does love come into any of Farkel's 15 points above?
I rest my case.
long, boring, repetitive meetings are intentional.

Actually, when I first read the title of this thread, I thought it read "Borning Meetings are INTERNATIONAL", which I suppose is also true.
Could become the title for a Convention programme sometime....
just a question, why do you come here?
are you doubting, looking for answers that the gb couldn't?
what is it you're trying to accomplish by participating on this board?
Funny innit how this posting has already been read 20 times and it's only been here a few minutes.
No doubt, most of us are ex-JWs but I wonder how many aren't.
Good point, Ashitaka.
How many on the inside have as many doubts as we used to? It takes a a lot of courage and a thirst for truth to not just look elsewhere but to put one's money where one's mouth is.
So come on you cowardly lot. Either tell us that we are all 100% completely wrong, or take the plunge and join our evil throng (oh, that rhymes!!)

And of course, on top of the repetative content we have the brothers who are specifically trained to drone in monotone.
Two such performers spring to mind: one who used the phrase "on a peronsal basis" at least 6 times a minute and another chap who would painfully draw out the ends of words - especially the word Christ (said through the nose). We had great fun imitating these complete twerps (both bald I seem to remember) but the joke soon wore off and there we were again, plunged back into boredom.
Nevertheless, there must be a training school somewhere for these ingenious techniques (if your theory is true Metatron). After all, they seem to have training schools for everything!
